AUTO

I always rent a car myself. They put it nicely ready at the parking lot of the airport of Heraklion. The keys are dropped in a box at the entrance. When you drive out you pay a few euros for the parked time. Via the new highway the ride to Matala takes about 45 to 50 minutes. I always rent from the family KOUMIANAKIS being KRI-KRI and FILIA. Of course others also offer this service and you can always rent a car at the airport itself.

TAXI

At the airport there are always taxis waiting. It is best to agree on the price in advance. Some really dare to exaggerate. A normal ride to MATALA for 2 people will cost between 85 and 100€. Some friendly local taxi drivers from Matala will also pick you up by appointment. You can trust them and they usually offer you a good price with the prospect of being able to make the return trip. NIKOS and MICHALIS, among others, have been offering this service for years.

BUS

You can take the bus from Heraklion Airport to MATALA. There are 4 trips per day. These go via MOIRES. Duration about 2 hours at a price of 6 to 8€ per trip. The timetables can be found below.
